The quintessential men’s barbershop is making a comeback. These are the best of the best.

A new appreciation for good old-fashioned grooming is taking root around the U.S. In West Hollywood, California, reclaimed wood floors and walls covered in bright white subway tiles set the tone at Baxter Finley Barber & Shop, from men’s skin-care brand Baxter of California. Take a seat in a circa-1900 porcelain-and-leather Koken chair for a no-frills cut and shave. Nearby, at the Proper Barbershop—a hip Los Angeles joint adorned with street art—you can have a cold beer and play Xbox games as a stylist perfects your coif with Layrite, the original pomade. In New York City, the Blind Barber has a cocktail lounge, a kitchen, and even a bouncer. Pair a hot-and-cold-towel shave with a thin-crust pizza and a BlackJack (Jack Daniels, Grand Marnier, and blackberries). Meanwhile, at Miami Beach’s Sloane Square Barbers & Shoppe, a shoulder massage comes with a shave and cut, plus a drink is included with everything from beard trimming to nail grooming. And in New Orleans, Cesar Rivera, from the legendary Aidan Gill salon, just opened Magazine St. Barber Shop, where he uses an antique towel steamer for hot-towel shaves. Afterward, kick back at the cypress bar with a local Abita Amber.

Rockabilly Barber Revives old-school pompadour at Vegas shop

LAS VEGAS — Comb and electric razor at the ready, Martin Corona stood over his customer, poised to create a version of his specialty retro-cool hairstyle.

The rockabilly cut.

“I’ll take the regular pomp,” the customer said. “High and tight on the sides.”

Corona nodded. He understood precisely what the man wanted, a cut still in demand even six decades after it made its debut among American youth.

The rockabilly look was spawned by the 1950s music that melded rock ‘n’ roll with bluegrass, with its twirling stand-up basses and twangy vocals. The music’s emerging subculture soon featured slick ski-jump-sloped pompadours (think early Elvis), tattoos and vintage cars known as “rat rods,” some with dangerous-looking shark fins and buffed black bodies.

But the hair has always been the thing: not just the heart-stopping pompadour but also extra-wide parts, comb-overs, the cut high in the back and on the sides.

“For years, you couldn’t go to a regular barbershop and get a pompadour — the old barbers wouldn’t know what it was,” said Corona, 28, who began styling rockabilly cuts in his Las Vegas garage as a teen. “They’d look at you like you were crazy, saying, ‘That’s not gonna be straight!'”

As rockabilly began enjoying a revival a decade ago, so too has the look that launched a thousand guitar riffs. Although Corona’s business didn’t make the cut, Men’s Health magazine recently featured several rockabilly shops in its list of “the manliest barbershops in America.”

Again in vogue, the country-musician look from another era has helped stem the decline of traditional barbershops in the U.S., Corona said. Now a new generation of haircutters offers old-school lather shaves with steamed towels, not to mention elaborate sculptured comb-outs not found at the average franchise hair salon.

“As the old-style barbers retired, the young rockabilly barbers helped keep the trade alive,” he said. But as Corona also pointed out about these new hair joints, “They’re definitely not your grandfather’s barbershop.”

Last year, since Corona opened his Hi-Rollers barbershop just east of the Strip near downtown Las Vegas, the razors have buzzed nonstop. Business has been so good, he just added a fourth cutting station.

“The chairs are always full. I guess people just like the look of that classic hairstyle,” said Mike Hellem, 23, a Clark County firefighter, one of those who prefer the sides of a “pomp,” as it’s called, “high and tight.”

The vibe is low-key cool: a man cave of black-and-white tile floors and red walls crowded with skateboards, guitars, pictures of vintage cars and cards for Loteria, a Mexican version of bingo. The magazine stand featured Playboy, Lowrider and other men’s fare for customers Corona says are mostly 18 and older.

“This isn’t any salon. It’s a place where people get their hair cut and hang out,” said Corey Siu, 34, lead guitarist in Corona’s rockabilly band. “I’ve gotten my hair cut and stayed for another five hours.”

Corona is a walking ad for the new generation of hipster haircutters: His arms, neck and face are covered with tattoos of his trade, including a tiny treble clef on his right cheekbone, a pair of shears on his left. The word “barbero,” Spanish for barber, spreads across his neck just beneath his chin. His left arm has the image of a straight razor with a handle styled like a barbershop pole.

Yet while his mustache is waxed at the tips, Corona’s pompadour is covered with a hat. “We comb hair all day long,” he said. “The last thing we want to do is comb our own hair.”

How To Style Yourself as Independent Escort

  • Make your own identity and do not follow what others do. You know your body better than anyone, so take ideas from others for sure, but buy only those apparels which you feel comfortable in and which you can carry well.
  • Know what is going on in the fashion industry these days. You need to look urban, contemporary as well as stylish along with looking gorgeous and sexy at the same time. That’s a lot to ask for without a doubt but this is what the escort industry demands from you to be successful. Keeping yourself updated through media, TV shows, fashion magazines and shopping around from time to time, will help you know what it is that men like and women prefer these days.

How To Style Yourself as Independent Escort

  • Being and looking sexy is very important as an escort and thus, showing off a bit always helps. You need to be seductive sooner or later during the session and if you are wearing clothes from head to toe, it just might turn off your clients. Nobody is asking you to be vulgar or cheap. Just look elegant, while showing off a little amount of flesh in the right places. Basically, not too much not too little. Keeping client’s mouth water at all times will help you later.
  • Wearing short dresses is highly recommended but you need to know the occasion as well as the venue you are meeting your client. You need to consider if it is an in-call or out-call, whether you are going for a dinner date or partying late through the night or if you are simply hitting the hotel room. Knowing these facts will help you what to wear and which fashion gear you need to select for the session.

How To Style Yourself as Independent Escort

  • Prefer branded apparels over cheap roadside stuff. There is a huge difference even if you feel the roadside stuff looks awesome. It is the investment you are making into your profession and not actually showcasing your love for shopping, so take it seriously. It will reap you great results even if it isn’t visible immediately.
  • Make sure that you go to a beauty parlor every now and then and get your hair styled, skin therapies and facial done. It helps in many ways to keep your body clean and in proper condition. It is not only your face, but about your whole body so taking care of every part of your body just as properly is very crucial for your success in this business.
  • Dress for the occasion. Have your wardrobe ready for all kinds of occasions starting from a dinner date, club parties to conferences. Different clients will have different requirements so make sure that you have it all to avoid last minute confusion and rush.

How To Style Yourself as Independent Escort

  • Wear matching accessories, footwear and carry a matching handbag or purse as well, if possible. You do not want to look like a multi-color clown with no dress sense or style, unless that’s the clients fetish.
  • Do not copy others. Someone might look excellent in a gown, while you might look awesome in a simple short dress. Look what suits you and judge your dressing style accordingly. To make an identity of your own is very important to survive in this industry.
  • Do not wear something which makes you the odd one out. Wear clothes which wont embarrass your clients, instead it should be something which will make him proud of his choice.
  • No matter what you choose to wear, ensure that you are comfortable in it because if you are not comfortable, it will lower your confidence and make you ultra conscious which you certainly won’t be able to hide for long, eventually making you look amateur and unprofessional.
  • Wear according to your body. You can consult with a fashion consultant or a designer in this regards. If you have a bulky lower portion or big breasts, you will need to wear something which can give you a balanced look, which is appealing yet making you look proportionate. A professional designer can help you in suggesting how to achieve that.
  • Last of all, carry an attitude which makes you look smart and sexy at the same time, otherwise all the preparation will bite the dust.

Keeping these fashion tips in mind while going to meet your client will help you give a better impression to your client and win his heart in more ways than one. It is your first impression which will go a long way in getting more references, tip as well as the appointment for the next meeting from him again. So, take your fashion sense and style as seriously as you take your body in the escort industry as you cannot have one without the other. Being fashionable and stylish helps in creating an impression which is very necessary for high profile escorts to make and with an urban classy attitude mixed with it, you are sure to go a long way in making a successful career out of escorting.

Fashion Tips for Escorts

Fashion plays a very vital role in the escort industry, which in many ways is a glamour industry as well. Glamour and escorts go hand in hand as if the escorts do not look glamorous and sexy, they won’t be escorts. It is because their amazing looks, sense of style, fashionable clothes and curvaceous body why they are in this business and doing well at it.

Fashion Tips for Escorts

While it is primarily necessary for every escort to be in shape and take care of their facial looks and skin, it is also very necessary to enhance their already good looks by having a fashion sense which puts them above the rest. You as an escort should not in general, look like any other ordinary girl out there who can be easily approached, befriended and get laid with ease. You must look gorgeous and awesomely different from the rest or simply put, you must look special, someone whom clients can flaunt and be proud to have as a companion.

When you are wearing good clothes and decorating yourself with the right amount of makeup, good hairstyle and perfect accessories, you are sure to make a statement and stand out from the crowd. When you draw the eyes of other gentlemen present when you first meet the client in a public place, your client will immediately know he has got what he has asked for and this in many ways is seducing as well.

Fashion Tips for Escorts

Being fashionably right and regularly updated with the current fashion trends is very necessary for any escort as the world is changing and so are the demands of the clients. If you look like a vintage piece in front of a contemporary minded gentleman, he would in a very polite manner, cancel the appointment. This is certainly something you do not want and thus, you should always be geared with the best of attires and accessories, which not only enhances your looks but adds to your overall personality and gives you an identity, which your clients will remember for years to come.

Looking around and observing what other escorts are doing with their fashion gear will also help you get an idea of what needs to be done about your sense of fashion and style. Here, we are listing a few of the fashion tips for escorts which would help you get a better idea of how to stay up to date when it comes to fashion, especially in the escort industry.

Will your Miami health insurer pay for plastic surgery?

Americans love to look good, but insurers are often reluctant to pay the bills to help us look better.

Last year we spent nearly $11 billion on cosmetic procedures, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Of the more than 10 million procedures performed, the most requested was breast augmentation.

But Cameo Wichinsky, a 42-year-old investment fund manager living in Santa Monica, wants to take her figure in the opposite direction.

Will your Miami health insurer pay for plastic surgery?

Having long lived with the discomfort of breasts large enough to cause shoulder and neck pain and to limit her level of physical activity, she’s ready to go under the knife to reduce her breast size and, she hopes, improve her quality of life.

“I’m at the stage of my life when I’m ready to be active and be at my highest level. These things get in the way,” Wichinsky said.

Despite the fact that she has health insurance, she says she’ll have to shell out the nearly $9,000 for breast reduction surgery, which she has scheduled for November. Her insurer won’t cover the procedure.

“Insurance is a huge hassle,” Wichinsky said.

Will your Miami health insurer pay for plastic surgery?

There was a time when health insurers more readily paid for breast reductions, said Dr. Michelle Spring, a plastic surgeon with Marina Plastic Surgery in Marina del Rey.

“We tend to think of breast reduction as reconstructive surgery and not cosmetic, even though it has that cosmetic aspect to it,” she said.

Plastic surgery is expensive. It’s important to know ahead of time what insurers will pay for.

The line between the desire for improved physical appearance and medical need can be fuzzy in the world of health insurance. Although few people expect to have their health plan pay for their tummy tucks or face lifts, there are procedures that legitimately warrant coverage.

The bottom line when it comes to an insurer’s decision to pay for a procedure is typically whether it’s considered medically necessary, experts say.

“Generally, if a procedure is necessary to repair or preserve the healthy functioning of the body, it’s likely to be medically necessary,” said Carrie McLean, senior manager of customer care with online insurance broker eHealthInsurance.com.

Will your Miami health insurer pay for plastic surgery?

“If the procedure is typically considered standard practice for any given diagnosis, that may also meet the criterion for medically necessary,” she said.

Exactly where that line is drawn depends on the individual and his or her circumstances, not the procedure itself, said Patrick Johnston, president of the California Assn. of Health Plans, which represents 40 health plans insuring more than 21 million Californians.

For example, a middle-aged man interested in a tummy tuck to restore the six-pack of his youth isn’t likely to get much sympathy from his insurer, he said, but it’s a different story for someone who lost 150 pounds after bariatric surgery and is left with excess skin.

“This is a recognized standard of treatment for morbidly obese individuals,” Johnston said.

In the same way, he said, a nose job to correct a deviated septum or surgery to lift drooping eyelids that impair vision are other common surgeries likely to be covered by a health plan.

Consumers have a variety of legal protections that guarantee access to certain cosmetic procedures.

Women who have undergone a mastectomy after a diagnosis of cancer, for example, are guaranteed coverage for reconstructive surgery.

“Both federal and state laws guarantee a woman who has had a mastectomy as a result of breast cancer coverage for breast reconstruction,” Johnston said.

California law also requires insurers to cover the repair of a child’s cleft palate, which includes any medically necessary dental or orthodontic services that are an integral part of reconstructive surgery.

If you’re in the market for a cosmetic procedure, here are some important reminders.

• Check with your insurer in advance. In most cases you’re likely to need your insurer’s pre-authorization to obtain coverage.

It’s a good idea to work with your doctor. Submitting medical records, letters from specialists who have treated you for long-term symptoms and in some cases photos can all lend support for the medical necessity of the procedure and increase your chances of gaining approval.

• Pre-approval may not be enough. Breast reduction surgery such as what Wichinsky plans is a good example of the devil being in the details.

Most insurers dictate how many grams of tissue must be removed from each breast for the procedure to be covered, said Dr. Fardad Forouzanpour, a cosmetic surgeon with the Beverly Hills Cosmetic Surgical Group. Asking in advance what those requirements are can help avoid surprise bills.

• You can appeal insurer decisions. Don’t be deterred if your insurer initially denies coverage. “I frequently have to appeal the claim … to obtain insurance coverage,” said Dr. Michael Will, spokesperson for the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.

Prepping for Plastic Surgery In Miami

I’ve always thought of plastic surgery as a nip here and a tuck there, touch-ups for those who need a boost in self-esteem. What a shocker recently to follow the Discovery Channel’s cameras in the operating room during a face-lift, in which a woman’s face was lifted right off her body.

Plastic surgery is serious–and delicate–business.

But if going under the knife to rearrange nature is the only thing that can make you happy, here’s a stern warning: Look long and hard before you choose a cosmetic or plastic surgeon.

That advice comes from the California Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Prepping for Plastic Surgery In Miami

“Plastic surgery is one of the few fee-generated procedures left in medicine, and everyone seems to want a piece of the pie,” said Christine Pahl McCartney, CSPS executive director. “Make sure the doctor you choose didn’t get his certification on a weekend retreat in the Bahamas.”

Her group suggests that before you agree to any body altering, you carefully question the surgeon. I’m afraid I’d be too intim-

idated to ask all that she suggests. But McCartney insists that not only should you, but many do.

She recommends asking the doctor:

* How much experience do you have in this field?

* How many times have you performed the procedure, and how recently?

* May I speak to former patients?

* Where will you perform the surgery? Most plastic surgeons use out-patient facilities. But McCartney says find out if your doctor at least has approved privileges to operate at a local hospital. If not, that’s a tip-off that you may not be in the most capable hands.

If, after such questioning, you have doubts, McCartney warns not to proceed without getting a second opinion from another doctor.

But let’s say you do feel comfortable with the doctor you’ve chosen. You still need to take one more important step, the experts agree:

Call the Medical Board of California to find out your doctor’s background.

You can learn more than just whether he or she is licensed. You can find out where the doctor’s degree came from, when it was issued, whether the doctor has a disciplinary record or if the doctor has lost any civil malpractice judgments.

You can reach the Medical Board by phone at (916) 263-2382 or on the Internet at http://www.mdbd.ca.gov.

Here’s one other recommended inquiry: Check with the American Board of Medical Specialties at (847) 491-9091 or http://www

.certifieddoctor.org. This board can tell you whether a doctor is certified in any specialties, such as liposuction.

Maybe you’re like me: You’d never consider plastic or cosmetic surgery. But others find it appealing, and in big numbers.

The Plastic Surgery Information Service in Arlington Heights, Ill., says that cosmetic surgery procedures in this country topped 1 million last year for the first time–a 50% increase over the last two years.

But McCartney offers one more essential piece of advice: “We get complaints from lots of people unhappy with their results. You have to be realistic about your plastic surgery. Not everybody is going to come out looking like Cheryl Tiegs.”

Plastic surgery for teens in Miami

To say I disliked my nose as a teenager would be an understatement. Both its size (too big) and its shape (hooked) made me feel as if I stood out. Though I sometimes fantasized about getting it “done,” a nose job wasn’t something I ever considered seriously. At the time, the plastic surgery boom was just beginning to gain steam and, for the most part, adolescents weren’t on-board. Times have certainly changed.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons estimates that more than 330,000 adolescents — most of them female — underwent cosmetic procedures in 2007. The most popular surgical procedures were nose jobs, breast augmentation, ear reshaping and liposuction.

Plastic surgery for teens in Miami

Of course American teens want to undergo these procedures: They face tremendous pressure to be attractive, and they’re constantly bombarded with images of beautiful men and women who are held up as the norm. “We’ve made a decision about what beauty looks like in this country, and everybody — teens in particular — wants to fit the mold,” says Diana Zuckerman, president of the National Research Center for Women and Families, a nonprofit organization that works to improve the health of women and children.

But, in general, cosmetic surgery may not be appropriate for adolescents. After all, altering the way you look before you’re even done developing physically seems almost ridiculous.

Plastic surgery for teens in Miami

Many plastic surgeons argue that cosmetic procedures aren’t just about improving appearances; they make the case that surgery can improve teenagers’ self-esteem too. Because teens take every imperfection (real or perceived) seriously, physical differences, however minor, can influence what they think of themselves and how they behave. Teens can be tough on one another too, and a feature outside the perceived norm — be it a large nose or a flat chest — can be the source of teasing and ultimately self-imposed isolation. But no well-designed studies demonstrate that cosmetic surgery significantly changes teenagers’ quality of life. “Although patients who have undergone a cosmetic procedure often do feel better about that particular body part, there’s really no data to suggest that it improves their overall body image or self-esteem,” Zuckerman says.

Plastic surgery for teens in Miami

Studies do show, however, that teenagers naturally begin to feel better about their appearance as they progress through adolescence. Some simply get used to features that they once found bothersome; for others, those features actually change. Skeletal maturity may occur around age 14 to 16, but bodies continue to mature. Girls frequently gain weight or “fill out,” and boys grow more muscular. Unfortunately, patience isn’t teenagers’ strong suit, and the wait can be agonizing, affecting how they see their place in the world. “I’m convinced that there’s a group of teen patients that can be helped by cosmetic surgery,” says Dr. John Canedy, president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. “The critical thing is to select them thoughtfully and carefully.”

That’s not always easy. Teens’ ideas of what they want can change quickly — day to day, sometimes even hour to hour. For that reason, it’s important that a teen have a long-standing and consistent desire to have cosmetic surgery.

The desire must be theirs alone. Surgery should never be a response to pressure from friends or a boyfriend or girlfriend. It also shouldn’t be something they do because parents want them to. “I’ve had parents get very mad at me when I’ve refused to operate on their child,” Canedy says.

Teens need to be mature enough to understand what the surgery can and cannot do for them. A nose job may eliminate a bump and liposuction might slim their hips, but these procedures won’t eliminate problems in their lives.

Although teens legally don’t sign consent for surgery (their parents do), they need to understand the risks involved. “Plastic surgery is still surgery. There are real complications that can happen,” Canedy says. Canedy admits that these conversations take a long time, and he often sees his teenage patients more than once before deciding to move ahead with surgery. “It’s part of my job as their doctor — not just their plastic surgeon. At some point, you simply have to make sure that the right thing is done.”

More plastic surgeons should be as thoughtful as Canedy in their approach to teens. But, apparently, discouraging patients from having surgery, regardless of their young age, isn’t considered a particularly good business model.

Parents ultimately hold the deciding vote about surgery, and they’re the ones largely responsible for determining what is best for their child.

With a 14-year-old daughter of my own, I recognize how difficult that can be. While I’d like to think that I’d dissuade — if not forbid — her from having cosmetic work done, I’m acutely aware of the tremendous forces that our kids face to look perfect.

But if you’re looking for a little something more, hit up these full-throttle, super sexy Vegas activities.

Boy Seeks Thrill
If you’re looking for a way to get your heart pumping that doesn’t involve a roulette wheel, check out the Stratosphere roller coaster. This white-knuckler is located high above the Vegas strip and is sure to make you squeal. But if heights aren’t your thing, try indoor skydiving. Guests are able to simulate free fall without actually jumping out of an airplane.

How about floating in zero gravity just like they do on the space shuttle? In Las Vegas this is not science fiction but reality. Better make sure you’ve won big though, because this reality ain’t cheap! To float like an astronaut, be prepared to lay down about $9,000. Perks include your own personalized flight suit along with champagne re-entry.

If you’re looking to step up your game, take advantage of the many pro lessons Vegas has to offer. The Venetian offers poker lessons you can take privately or with a group of friends. For a more unique experience, get up from the table and head over to the dolphin habitat at The Mirage. The hotel offers the chance for up to 4 people to grab their wet suits and spend a day in the water with a family of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins. Breakfast and lunch are included — for you and the dolphins.

On dry land, the Las Vegas Speedway will put your driving skills to the test. Learn how to drag with the best of them, and get your driving certificate in only one day.

Before You Say “I Do”
Las Vegas is a city conceived, designed and built for good times, so it’s no surprise it’s also become the ultimate destination for bachelor and bachelorette parties. Ladies can enjoy their last night of freedom at the 2,300-square-foot Hot Pink Suite at the Palms. Aside from being color-coordinated, the suite comes with a Show Shower and a stripper pole.

If Vegas is the place for your wedding and reception, look no further than the infamous Little White Chapel. Join the ranks of stars like Michael Jordan and Slash by saying your vows at this Las Vegas landmark.

If you’re looking for a bit more class, book a bridge wedding at St. Mark’s Square at The Venetian. From the photos to the food to the honeymoon suite, you can have it all under one roof.

The Flamingo Las Vegas

People scoffed when Mobster Bugsy Siegel said he wanted to open a luxury resort in the middle of the Nevada desert, a full 7 miles from downtown Las Vegas. When the $6-million Flamingo Hotel and Casino opened in 1946, Siegel billed it as the world’s most luxurious and set out to attract the rich and famous. To set the tone, Siegel focused on first-class pampering; he decked out every employee — from janitor to dealer — in tuxedos, spared no expense on furnishings and created the VIP section for special guests.

The hotel first featured 105 guest rooms, and a luxurious array of activities and services, including a casino, health club, gym, steam rooms, horse stable, swimming pool, tennis courts, handball courts, a 9-hole golf course and a trapshooting range. It wasn’t long before Siegel’s dream was realized (although he died before the hotel blossomed to its full glory) and the nation’s elite were flocking to the Flamingo. The hotel has since undergone significant renovation, including the addition of several towers that brought the room total to 3,626.
